The Organization
The Fiesta Sports Foundation is a world-class community organization, dedicated to providing premier college football bowl experiences and local events that serve as economic drivers for Arizona and provide charitable resources for our community.
As a small nonprofit organization, we believe in the importance of fostering a culture of camaraderie, that values teammates and teamwork. Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Fiesta Sports Foundation hosts a variety of local events each year, as well as two elite bowl games, the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl held at State Farm Stadium and the Rate Bowl held at Chase Field. The Fiesta Sports Foundation has given nearly $32 million in charitable resources to the Arizona community in the last 14 years.
The Position
The Fiesta Sports Foundation is searching for an experienced human resource professional to join the team as Director of People & Culture. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience promoting successful employee management by balancing both the tactical and strategic human resource needs of a small business.
Primary responsibilities include payroll and benefits administration, workplace compliance, facilities management and driving the recruitment and retention of the right talent for organizational success. This role will also focus on maintaining positive employee experiences that drive meaningful engagement and fosters a culture of belonging/inclusion, teamwork, purpose-driven results, accountability, and fun. The role will report to the Chief Legal & Strategy Officer.
Primary Responsibilities
Serve as the lead for all Human Resource administration; this includes the organization’s benefits programs, maintenance of workplace compliance, payroll administration and facilities management.
Manage payroll administration system ensuring bi-weekly payroll runs are without error and correctly reflect employee benefits and withholding elections.
Work with benefits broker and retirement plan representatives to ensure Fiesta Sports Foundation has relevant and competitive benefits. Support the staff with questions and benefits needs.
Provide leadership and direction to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal employment-related laws and regulations. Stay up to date on any changes.
Manage and conduct general organizational onboarding and orientation for new employees; in collaboration with the Chief of Staff, develop and standardize onboarding expectations, schedules, protocols, and procedures across the organization
Manage and conduct termination and offboarding of staff, including exit interviews; analyze narrative and data from interviews for the purpose of making recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team for corrective action and continuous quality improvement.
Serve as the human resources contact for all employees in the organization, offering an open-door policy for employee questions and concerns; proactively engage employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention; routinely communicate HR news and notices via email and in-person all-staff meetings.
Lead the organization’s facilities management to include serving as point-of-contact for service providers who maintain these physical spaces (corporate office, Fiesta Bowl museum and warehouse) as well as the organization’s third-party IT provider.
Secondary Responsibilities
Develop strategies with the Chief of Staff to identify talent, with an emphasis on finding wide ranges of skills that also embody emotional intelligence and alignment of values; establish and conduct the recruitment and hiring process for all employees, including collaborating with managers to craft detailed job descriptions that align with Fiesta Sports Foundation culture. Work with managers and prospective employees throughout the hiring process, including taking the lead on extending job offers.
Develop and manage HR department budget.
Identify training needs and coordinate training modules for staff members as needed. This includes but is not limited to, annual training, skills-based training, cybersecurity training, diversity and inclusion training and conduct other trainings as situations mandate.
Assess organizational needs for professional development; identify and support opportunities for management and employee growth in their field of expertise or career track.
Partner with senior management team on performance management activities including ongoing feedback, documentation of performance issues, annual performance evaluations, and performance improvement plans. Maintain knowledge of industry trends and best practices in workplace development and change management.
Partner with leadership to identify opportunities to recognize employees, utilizing events and appreciation activities to express our value of positive employee experience; recognition events/opportunities may include an annual retreat, social events, and group activities, while also providing individualized tracking for anniversaries, birthdays and other milestones to be celebrated.
Partner with Executive Leadership Team to creatively manage and resolve complex employee relations issues.
Exhibit understanding, sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in the organization’s service and employee populations; oversee the creation and implementation of programs that build momentum for intentional inclusion and a sense of belonging.
Keep a keen eye on current and future talent needs, while also staying abreast of trends in the marketplace and make recommendations to Senior leadership. Forecast opportunities for Fiesta Sports Foundation, planning ahead for talent gaps and needs that impact the organization’s mission going forward; gain an in-depth understanding of organization priorities and translate those into workforce planning for various teams; provide input on department restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field; SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
Minimum 5-7 years of HR generalist or HR Business Partner experience Non profit and/or small business experience a plus
Experience in revising or developing new HR policies and procedures to meet changing organizational needs, and to support the desired organizational culture.
Ability to deal with conflict effectively, and to manage difficult situations confidently and calmly; demonstrated ability to coach and counsel both executive-level management and employees; willingness to make decisions.
Strong project management skills; ability to effectively plan, implement and manage HR programs and functions; ability to implement, explain, and apply relevant policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
